Knock in the steering. looking for cause
Hi,
on my 2001 2.7 i heard a knock and some hauling sounds when i was steering my car in close circles to the left. So i found some play in the tie rod ends and replaced those along with all the control arms since they all came in a nice kit. Then i had someone make a few turns in the parking lot to see if that fixed it. But i still heard a loud knock at a very specific position of the steering wheel when wiggling it left to right a few inches.
So then i took a look what was going on and i saw that the part inbetween the tie rod ends, that bar that connects the two was moving up and down. Is it supposed to do that? What is the problem with my steering? How can i fix it? I wanted to get the car realigned after all these changes i made but now i think i am going to wait until someone here tells me what is wrong with my car.
Thanks for your help.
Kai

Karl,
What do you mean by "that bar that connects the two"? Do you mean the part covered by the bellows? That would be your inner tie rod ends. These go bad and need to be replaced.
What do you mean by "hauling" sound? Do you mean "howling" sound? That would be your power steering fluid level. Add some of the proper fluid (make SURE it is proper!!!) and that should go away.
