looking at 2012 A6, please educate me
I have been a Volvo driver all my life, but am seriously considering a 2012 preowned certified A6 (3.0 premium plus). It has 40k miles on it and if I understand the preowned certified warranty, 3 years of warranty left on the car (I assume I'll get to 2018, 2012 + 6 before I get to 100k miles).
I would love to hear any advice/thoughts from you folks concerning these cars. I see that there was an airbag recall on a small number of 2012s. Any other mechanical issues that I should be aware of?
I drove an '86 240DL to 410k miles before purchasing a 2005 XC70 from Volvo’s preowned certified program. That warranty.... 7 years or 100k miles got the car paid off while still under the warranty, which was nice. I don't see Audi's warranty doing the same (although close). My daughter is taking the XC70 off to college, so my wife needs a new ride. She fell in love with the A6's looks and drive feel (which by the way, puts you in a terrible negotiation position!)
So there it is. We drive our cars a long time. And l’d love to hear what I should be on the look out for in an A6. Please educate me!

Audi quality has dramatically improved in the last 5-10 years, which is in your favor. However, you still need to do all regularly scheduled maintenance and I encourage Mobil 1 or equivalent for your oil changes. The dealer was using dino in my daughter's A4 and I switched it to syn. I'm a believer -- my turbo'd A6 is still going strong although the body is starting to rust. You can see in my signature that we drive our cars a long time, too.

I love my 2012 a6 - I had a thermostat go out (fixed under warranty) and a hood hook that's not latching correctly (still need to have checked out).
Couple of quirks in the electronics (inside air doesn't stay on when you restart car, moonroof doesn't open all the way, requires 2 clicks to fully open, MMI needs serious help and Audi seems to have abandoned it).
But all minor - it drives awesome! Every day I love this car. Given it's my first Audi, but I love getting into it every single day.
Get some good tires and put it in Sport - go to town!
