Default Looking to buy.. answer a few ?'s please

Hi there, I'm new here obviously.

I recently totalled my Trans Am swerving to miss a Jaywalkerthe other night[:@], and have decided now that I have done the fast car gig, I'd like to move to the luxury car gig. I'm pretty much sold on the A6, and as a V8 enthusiast am attracted to the 4.2. So I've read about it some, and have done a search here, but still have a few questions.

The car I am currently looking at is a 01 4.2 with 93k miles on the clock, but it has supposedly been dealer maintained all it's life. The price is $11,900, probably able to knock a grand off haggling, but does that sound fair?

I've come to the conclusion that it is regarded as a more reliable engine than the 2.7t thanks to it's lack of turbos. And my desire to leave it stock. However, do the same timing belt/water pumpreplacement reccommendations apply to this engine as they do to the 2.7?

Also as a whole, the 4.2 model came with different exterior stylings such as different fenders and bumpers, but did the interior change at all?

And last questionI think would be that 91k miles shouldn't be too bad for a car if it was dealer maintained, and well kept correct? I mean I've driven my past 2 V8 cars over 150k with no major problems other than a little oil burning, can I expect to get decent results out of this engine?

It's like hit or miss with audi...dont get me wrong...4.2 are very nice cars and drive awesome but you want to make sure the car doesnt have any kind of mechanical history...get all past paperwork or anything done by dealer.

Price seems high for this model and year..should be less then 9k..good luck

Take the VIN to your local Audi dealer and have them run the service/maintenance history for you. As far as price, the Kelley Blue Bookvalue for the 01 4.2 with 90K, and with typical equipment, in good condition is (Private sale - $13,200) and (Trade-In $10,900). If the car is truly loaded KBB adds about a $1K.With Audis the maintenance history of the car is very important in determining if the KBB price is a fair price. The forum is full of threads where a buyer thinks they have found a great price on an Audi only todiscover that the car was abused in its prior life and that the carwill be spending a great deal of time intheservice department. If the car you are looking at has truly been dealer maintained, and you can confirm it, and the car is in good condition, it is probably a fair price for the car.
