Default Oil changes and mileage

I use walmart to change my oil the price is right.
ADDED info for car buyers
I was a service tech on the road and sometimes put as many as 60K a year on my auto.
So why am I telling you this one of my customers was Society of Automotive Engineers SAE 10W30 etc.SO I ASKED THE BIG QUESTION what is hard use of a car and easy use
Easy use ------drive it for 4 hrs at 55 plus go to lunch and drive it 55 plus for 4 more hours ( What happens the engine oil ,trans oil, water wheel bearings all get to the correct operating temp.) they called it lite use.
Heavy use-----any trip less than 20 min. run time and park it.!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So I look for very young cars with high miles -----2009 with 70 to 90 k on the clock and can show maintenance records
When you think about it the only thing Waring is the tires and shocks, you do not hit the brake only turn the wheel a little no stress on Ball joints and engine is at correct operating temp.

But without getting complicated, my choice is 5W-40 synthetic. about 4K between changes. Some people find that a little excessive but I am meticulous, aka ****.

Stay away from Fram filters. Use Mann, Wix or reputable brands.
This.

I use Castrol High Mileage 5W-30 every 3K and a NAPA Gold filter.

Unless you're driving a lot of short trips, changing oil at 4-5k is wasting money. These cars have large sumps and 7.5 quarts of oil handles a lot of contaminants. That said, my 2.7T oil is changed every 7-9k with Mobil1 0W-40 and I drive mostly highway. No oil usage at 170k and oem turbos are fine (knock on wood). I use 5W-30 in my daughter's A4 3.0 -- no turbos so slightly higher viscosity does not hurt anything and change at 5-6k because she drives a lot of short trips.

In my 99 A6 2.8L with 175K miles, I use 10w-40 regular oil, change it every 4k.
My cousin said I should switch to semi-synthetic and change it every 8-10k. Is it Ok to go from using mineral oil to semi-synthetic or even synthetic?

Yes but you may develop leaks.
