I feel like a total dumb *** right now, ive done a 100 oil changes on my cars before but i cant find the filter on this car its the cartridge style filter the dealer gave per my vin code and its an 05 a6 4.2l quattro help please lol

 

Even with the belly pan mounted (engine's protective plastic undercover), if you open the hood you should be able to see it somewhere down in the space between the radiator fans and the engine block.

 

So i finally found it, It was under the plastic cover that has the Audi logo on it it. At the back on top of the motor. What a weird placement.

 

And I thought oil filters were on the bottom side of motors.... maybe they put the motor in upside down on a 4.2!!

 

Lyosha, you ought to take a pic for our sanity. We gotta see that filter placement.
Is it possible you purchased a car with a oil catch can?

 

Are you sure this is not a Saab??? That is where the filter is on the 9.3...

Ashamed to admit, but I have never seen an oil filter placed at the top of the engine. It would be a first.
