(P R N D) flashing on dashboard
#12
I got this flashing issue checked by the Audi dealership. They mentioned that there is an oil leak on the gear box. And that Audi does not repair gearboxes. They just replace it.
And the replacement is going to cost me $8000!!!!
Obviously I will not opt for that.
Just wanted to know in general, does Audi gearboxes get repaired conveniently? Is it ok to open up the gearbox? I know a few good mechanics who can do it or should I look for a Audi specialist?

Probably your few good mechanics will actually do something about it, if you take it apart.
Of course the Audi dealer doesn't repair gear boxes because they outsource big items. They checked it (with a VAGCOM?), and they didn't even tell you what could be the probable cause, except that it has a visible oil leak on the box? This is an effing joke of a dealer with dollar signs affixed in their orbit sockets.
If you do a search....you can find a great thread by "Site Administrator" who repaired the tranny himself. You got good pointers there that may be valuable to your trusty mechanics.
$ 8000 to replace a tranny is a damn ripoff....you can buy 2 older Audis with that much money that would have trannys in better shape

Exactly! It is a damn rip-off!!!! I still have that estimate they prepared and laugh everytime I look at it.
Yes, that's all they said. 'Oil leak on gearbox. Advised replacement'. I asked if replacing the tranny oil would help. Guess what they told me? "No, we don't change tranny oil also. We can only replace the gearbox and thats the only solution".
On further probing, he started blaming me for buying a faulty car!!! Gave them a good piece of my mind and left.
But the problem remains. Anyways, I'll search for that thread by 'Site Admin'.

You should take it to an independent audi mechanic or a transmission shop that specilizes in European cars. There are guys out there rebuilding ZF trannies. There is one guy at this forum who rebuilt it himself, too. Forget his name, but you can search.

Audi tt PRND blink
I have been having a problem with my 2010 Audi TT 2.0t Quattro (automatic) where the prnd will blink after driving a bit when I shift back into park or reverse and I have to turn the car off and on and it will go away, and let me shift into another gear. When this happens it feels like the car just keeps trying to shift into the gear and it will try 3-4 times and then it just starts blinking and it will not be in gear, any ideas other than a new TCM. I can still move the shifter around when this happens.
