Default Problems when reconnecting battery ECU

Hi, I took my car into a garage last week for something simple (not an Audi dealer - sorry!), they disconnected the battery for safety reasons. Now they have reconnected it I have lost my outsdie temperature display, and I presume the amber and red warning signals that sit behind it. I can manually run through the check to get the OK by holding down the button underneath the display. However the manual I have is for an A6 with a reset button on the wiper arm, my car does not have one! The garage have attempted to reset things, as the date reverted to date of manuafacture etc, but I am getting nervous now! Allegedly he took it to Audi and they could find nothing wrong on their computer? Anyway, there must be a simple explanation, surely batteries need replacing now and then, so how do you restore the information panel once this has been done? Thank you very much for any help. Jayne
