Default Replacing my '02 A6

Hi Guys

I am at a total loss on what i should do. I purchased my A6 2002 in Sept 2006. Since then i have had so many problems with it, and it was a audi certified.

Since i bought it , i chanced out all brakes, rotors and had to replace both drive shafts (apparently the boots were gone and that is not covered by the warrantee).

My existing loan on it is $15,000 with $400 per month payments.

It just clocked over 70k and I am worried it will keep draining cash on me. I know i have to change out all the tires, and the battery (its the original and playing up). Ontop of that, some stupid kid threw a ball and dented the trunk which i was quoted by dentwizard $350 to fix. Oh and I forgot to mention probably the timing belt too which will set me back another 1.5k.

I have seen another A6 2004 with 35k going for 22k.

With paying off my old car (which leaves me with almost a 5k deficit) and get a the 2004 a6, I would be left with a payment of 480 per month over 72 months.

Am I making a bad move to upgrade to the 2004 or should i stick it out with the 2002?

You have done quite a few things on the '02, which won't need to be done again for a long time. Your numbers show you could move up 2 yrs, but instead of owning the car in 3 yrs, you'll be paying a higher monthly payment for the next 6 yrs. mmmm..

I don't know about you, but to go from owing 15k to 35k $$ , and moving up only 2 model years seems like a lot of money, IMO
Hey, if you want a "newer" car with (initially) fewer maintenance costs, then why not?

I would not pay another $20K for soemone else's used car. If you are not going to buy new, stick with the used car where you have already made the repairs.

I'd keep the one you have. It looks like you got stuck with a lot of these issues when you bought the car. You've already got most of them fixed. Finish what you started, i.e.. timing belt, dented hood, and you'll have a car that will last you a long time. Which engine do you have?

Agree..^^^^^ You have already taken it in the pocketbook. Getting a 2 year old newer carand going into far more debt, especially when you factor in depreciation, is ludicrous. You have made some repairs and will likely have a few more but you will inevitably have to do it all over again with the newer model. Stick it out. Sell it when the time is right i.e. pay it down far enough so you break even when you sell it, and then upgrade. Upgrade to an '06 or newer. It's what I would do. Doing the opposite of this advice will land you in the same position you are in now 2 years from now. It's like jumping out of the pan into the fire. [8D]

Thank you so much guys

You really have helped me put this into perspective... Better to get into 3k of expenses vs another 20k to get a car 2yrs younger.

Thank you and good advice.

p.s. any recommendations on good tires and battery for replacement?

Thanks again
