Is it safe to buy a multitronic
Hi all
I'm new to the forum. I'm planning to buy either an Audi A6 2.4 multitronic, or an A4 1.8T manual.
There is quite a age difference between the cars, about 4 years, but the price doesn't differ that much. The A6 is a 2003 model with 114km in the clock, and the A4 a 1999 model and has 174 km on the clock.
Both are in very good condition. I'm scared to buy a multitronic, as for some reason I'm scared that it might give problems. How reliable is the multitronic gearboxes?
Any help would be apreciated please

Did I read this correctly "Audi A6 2.4" ?Did you mean 2.7?
Either way I would go for the newer car with less miles, but then again I prefer the A6 to the A4 for the larger cabin and more legroom for the passengers in the back (I have growing kids).
Define your needs first and then select comparable cars. The A6 is a lot more car than the A4 with better amenities, etc... It is also a heavier car so expect less miles per gallon.
The A4 1.8t is nimble and fun to drive.
Decisions, decision!!!

Thanks for the reply zippy,
first of all, yep it is a A6 2.4. I'm in South Africa, so models might differ from the states.
Second, define needs: I have two growing kids as well. I'm looking at something a little more econimical than the Mazda Drifter 2.5 turbo-diesel Double Cab pickup that I have at the moment. The A6 (or simular big cars) doesn't keep its value over here, and thats why the price is not that bad. They also offering me a better trade in on my pickup than the A4 guys. The A4 does feels like a lot of fun to fdrive though. The only thing that puts me off on the A6 is the multitronic box.
