TIRES decisions....decisions
Well I have Pirelli P6 on my 03 A6 2.7T Quattro they are worn to 3/32nds and after much.....much research Cuz I hated the Pirellis I decided to go with a Yokohoma Avid All Season Tire. I had these on a Maxima I used to own (horrible cars in the snow) and it was great in the snow they handled OK and the tread life was AWESOME. Tell me I made an ok choice.
BY THE WAY I changed my oil with Castrol SYNTEC 5-30 and an audi oem filter....did it myself (i run a Nissan Service Dept) wasn't to bad took about 35 minutes. 5-30 Full Syn should be ok for Cleveland OHIO weather......RIGHT.

All Season tires are really No Season tires. I have gone with season dedicated tires, a much better choice in my opinion. My last set of no season tires were Pirelli P Zero Nero M&S, which were ok. My wife's old minivan came with Yokohoma Avids. Obviously with a minivan she never pushed the performance envelope of the tires.
I'll tell you that the Avids are great tires...
They are not high performance super sticky gumballs but they are great all around tires. Great milage, good in the snow, good ride, and will not break the bank.
I put them on my 89 200QT, my daughter's A6 and my wife's mini van. They will go one my A6 when the Michilen's were out.
I hated the Bridgestone that came on the new Mini Van because we couldn't get them balanced - even after changing all the tires twice. The Yoko's had better directional stability, were smooth from the get-go, and good in the rain.
Unless your a tire snob - the Yoko's were a good chice.

I have Yoko Avids on my other car and like them alot. The have great treadware and traction ratings. When the dunlops on my A6 avant wear out Yoko's are going on it as well. I think the Castrol for european cars is 5w-40. That is what i use. Read the back of the bottle, it should comply with the VW specs.
I prefer 0W-40 in the winter because of the turbos, but as long as you drive it gently until it warms up you should be ok.
I also have had no problem with the OEM Pirellis and find them great in the winter. I use different rims and Contis for the summer.
