Turbos in the 2.7
Hey guys i have about 90k miles on my '03 2.7t, just had a quick question on the stock turbos. Has anyone here had this model and had the turbo blow out, or have an estimate of about the approximate mileage when they generally do? thanks

Around 91K miles is when you can expect a high rate of failure
Just yanking your chain... I couldn't resist...
Some folks have 200k miles on the original set of turbos, while others will just go through them every 50-60k miles... It is how you drive and how good you are with keeping up the maintenance. Don't blast the turbos when the car is still cold, and let time to cool off before turning off the engine. Use a good oil too!

It is within reason to believe that they are blown or blowing oil. It seems to be the magic number. I just bought an 04 a6 s-line with 52000 mi and my passenger side turbo is starting to blow oil. I am having it repaired as we speak. 25 Hrs in labor and 1200 for the turbo. My audi tech tells me that the only way to keep them going is proper maintenance and driving. If you bought the car used then you have no idea how it was treated. It should warm up so the oil can circulate in the turbo blower. After reving it hard dont shut the car right off beacause you dont want to cut oil to a spinning turbo. Use synthetic oil as it lubs better so if you do shut down too early damage will be minimal. You dont have to worry to much about heat as there is a water jacket on each unit which continues to cool the unit after power has been shut off. Its not good to let the car idle for long periods of time as the exhaust side of the turbo never gets to cool down. If you do have your turbos serviced have them change all 4 oil lines. Very important. On average its about 4500 for both turbos to be replaced. Good Luck!!!!!
