Ok, so i've found a little money squandered away and have decided that I want to enhance the performance of my A6. I have an '02 4.2 V8 and would like to put on some more horsepower. Does anybody have experience with putting and/or just buying twin turbos for the 4.2? I'm not sure what type to purchase and if there's even a kit for such a job. I'm looking to get a total of more than 500 hP from my car. Can anyone help. Also, what other kinds of additional materials would I need to complete this scenario, I.E. intercooler, etc?

You are going to want too look into if there is enough room? and your 'brother' car is going to be the rs6. The 4.2TT. A car that which holds a ground shaking 400+ horsepower with a chip making 525+ on pump gas. You are going to look into getting rs4 ko4's or rs6 ko4's. You might be able to use the kits for the s4/a6 2.7T for your 4.2. I just promise you.. You will have the most tranny problems out of anybody if you don't do anything, aswell engine mounting. The rs6 tranny while running 525hp+ breaks within 1k-10k miles. You will also be looking into tranny mounts. I believe this would be a pretty big project but yes could be done. As far as intercooler you will need a few supporting factors including the intercooler. You will def need a giant front mount intercooler, downpipes/catback. Your ECU will be close to an rs6 but you should make sure the tuning can be done before the turbos

 

This is guaranteed to be expensive and high risk--you won't be able to simply bolt a pair of turbos onto the engine. And if you later decide to sell the car, you'll get little if any of the money you put in back.

 

Not worth it IMO. Just sell and get an RS6, then chip it. You'll get the 500+ hp and everything that is upposed to conme with it

 

You could get 550-600HP out of it.. if you do it right with a 4.2 I believe if money is a problem this would be a pretty fun project. Def cheaper ways but whatever floats your boat
