Hello all I have an A8 1999 quatro the car died last week on the way home took it to the mech and found the alternator to be gone it was not charging at all, so he replaced it, chraged the battery and started the car moved it out side and the next day about 24 hours later I needed it went to start it and it turned over nicely but wouldn't start sounds like no spark.

Before I spend a lot of time can anyone tell me what could have happen or I should check.

 

Let's see, let's start with lgnition Control Modules, Crank/Camshaft Position
Sensors, umm, how bout the ignition immobilizer ? Fuel Pump and fuel filter
are simple things to check. This same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago,
a guy changed the thermostat on a Buick, would not start, we later found
out is was the crankshaft position sensor, go figure. Are there any codes ?

 

Get codes....from ANOTHER mechanic. A8 alternators not charging are usually only in need of a new voltage regulator (on back of alternator) or more often the wires from the alternator to battery to be checked, esp the junction in the right front fender well (common corrosion problem)...rarely an entire alternator.
