Default Hesitation

I am a new 2001 A8L owner, 100K, in great shape...I think. I have noticed a few times that when I have coasted to a stop (on an off ramp and coasting down hill once) the car hesitates and took longer to wind up and accelerate like it normally does from a stop. The transmission fluid and filter were just done at a tansmission shop suggested by a good local Audi mechanic.

Is this typical? Something with the car's addapted blah blah?

Thanks for the help,
Burgie

OK, after driving it a bit longer, it appears this is the adaptive thing, because if I actually kick it down, the car responds by shifting down and jumping. However, if I am driving in a more eco-friendly fashion and lightly pushing on the throttle, it is very slow, and revs up high in whatever gear it is in (2nd?) and does not have the torque I expect. It is very odd....almost like Dr Jekle and Mr Hyde(speedy torque monster). Do I need to reset something? Common stuff to you all?
Someone speak up please, or else I will have to resort to the local dealer...

I heard that A8s come preprogrammed to drive like granny cars.

i.e. I f you go to pass some one you need to mosh on the pedal to get it to jump but you need to push so much it make kick down two gears and pin you to the seat. (not that I have a problem with that)

I haven't tried this yet but if you purchase a vag-com you can supposedly change the TCM code from stock- 00002 to 00012 and it will act like an S8 and hold the shifts longer, 00022 will be stock but hold first gear to red line, and 00032 will be S8 and hold first to red line.

I hate this stupid shifting adaption if you get stuck in traffic it's all messed up on the way home when you don't have any traffic and starts shifting to early.

I would do the 00012 if any.

Interesting. I will ask my mechanic when he is doing the necessary timing belt etc work next week. I would love for it to be more S8 like (although it does not have the suspension stuff, brakes, etc)
