Is there a way to have the nav by default start in the map mode

No, that would be a custom software set up. Audi could make a custom software upgrade to do that but they would have to make a re-flash for you to do it. In other words unless more than 1,000 people want that to be done it won't happen. That may change in the next year however, so keep yourself updated at the dealer. There has been several updates to the MMI system since the A8 came out, it may be the same case on the Q7 in the near future.

 

I would also be a fan of changing the default view to the Map. Just 998 to go.
