General Questions
Hi Guys
I hope some of you can answer a couple of general questions on the 225bhp TT.
It's my first so have no idea what to expect. I have come out of a Honda Civic Type R. The steering on the TT is quite a bit heavier and there seems to be quite a bit of road noise in the cab, at 80mph its pretty loud also when you accelerate the exhaust seems to rumble before the turbo spools up.
Is any of this normal or have I bought trouble ? The only reason I did buy this one was because it was a one owner and it's only just hit 38,000 miles today. ( it's on a 54 plate )
Thanks

Wow! Only 38,000 miles on the clock? What year is your TT?
If your car is over 10 years old, with that few of miles means its been sitting more than its been driven which,
is not good for any car wether its and antique (25 years or older) or a classic (15 years to 24 years old).
The car can wear out just by sitting - Dry rot, seals under reasonable driving conditions which are used to being wet and
heated periodically including metal components that can rust, will contribute to the lack of their of overall performance.
The Audi TT, cannot be compared to any Honda - A Civic R, a Prelude, a S2000. However, the Civic's BIG brother -
The Acura NSX could eat the TT for lunch but that's a totally different machine. The Audi TT will not handle like a Honda.
There are two very different philosphies regarding the engineering behind a Honda and an Audi.
Audi over engineered the TT's technology for the time it was conceived, with many idiosyncrasies that can not be explained unless your an Audi product engineer.
There is quality built into this car. I think Audi tried to do more than less and in the end, more problems for those of us owners.
Try telling a German engineer to do less than more. I'm both German and Austrian and an automotive engineer to boot, so I can speak with confidence that its not easy to do. Lol.
I'm sure this doesn't make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I wish I could tell you that the maintainance is minimal.
Just know the car is well made but will require maintenance. It was concieved in Germany, built in Hungary and anyone who
has owned either an Audi, Porsche or Volkswagen can tell you the cars are solid, well made, won't rust out with proper upkeep and will be a very satisfying driving experience.
If however, your looking for something to go from point A to point B fast with no issues and minimal maintenance then, this car may not be for you.

Hi Rudy
Yes the car only had 37,600 miles on the clock when I bought it 4 weeks ago. I think you are right that it had been standing around for a while. Maybe someone's second car. It just needed a bit of TLC. It is a 2004 car. The cam belt had never been changed but I do have a full service history. Since I've had it, I've replaced all the brakes, discs and pads, had the cam belt done with all the pulleys, water pump and new temp gauge sensor which has cured the problem with the gauge going down then back up. It's had a full service and 4 new tyres. It now drives like a different car. In 2 weeks it is off to have a full Miltek exhaust system, a more robust diverter valve, uprated air filter and a re map. I'll post what it drives like then.
