Default Howdy and Warranty Question

Hey everyone,

Just bought a 2001 TT225 over last weekend, and it is seriously the must fun car I've ever owned. I drove it from Boulder to Estes Park (the Rockies) on Saturday and it was an incredible drive.

Anyway, here's my question: I have 2 months left on the original factory warranty. The car has 64,000 miles. What should I be having done around this mileage marker as far as maintenance, tuning up, etc?

Many thanks for any suggestions, and I look forward to chatting with you all!

Best,

Sean

You need to do your timing belt job which also includes the water pump etc. That will not be covered under your warranty but it must be done asap. and since you still have warranty, I'd take it to your dealer and let them do a good check on everything so that anything warranty covered can be fixed. Enjoy the car!

ditto on the timing belt and water pump. If you've done any looking around the forum, you'll see that milage is where people start running into trouble with the belt tensioner. You're talking catastrophic failure if you lose the timing belt, as I'm sure you know. There are a few places online where you can buy a kit to replace all necessary parts if you feel inclined enough to do the work yourself. I'd rate it a 6 out of 10 on the difficulty scale, although it does take 2 to make sure the timing marks stay lined up as you reinstall the belt.
Look thru the forum a bit, you'll get some ideas as to how the cars hold up, and feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks guys. Any idea what the timing belt service would cost at the local dealership or independent European mechanic?

Many thanks,

Sean

at the dealer, i've seen quotes from $700 to $1400, an independant shop is going to be cheaper, just make sure you use a reputable one. I did mine myself, so it only cost me a few hundred for the parts.
