this thread is scary.

i REALLY hope some of you aren't using these figures as a way of justifying not replacing the belt.

i bet we could put up a "whats the LOWEST mileage a t-belt failed" thread and you will see people chiming in that it broke around 40,50, etc.

hey scott, i know that peoples have gone early... but none the less peoples dont go until later as well, which is probably why 60 is the recommended because its a happy medium...

i was just curious to the longer ones

60K is where the failure rate skyrockets, it's not the average, its the low side, with exception to a few.

And to add... Mine was replaced at 105,000, but I couldn't find record of the pump being replaced too, so I drove it home after buying it, and changed everything. I went 4,000 miles between timing belt jobs basically. Good thing too, still had original pump w/ cracked impeller.

Had the dealer print out a Maintenance schedule for me and the timing belt replacement is listed at 80k but then another section further down where it states timing Belt and tensioner replacement at 105k...?

And don't you believe it. ... There was a class action lawsuit just settled based upon the long duration in the manual not meeting reality. Audi depending upon where you are has different recommendations. But the consensus in all the forums that I read is 60,000 miles or 5 years which ever comes first.
