Ok how do I figure out if I have an immobilizer?

All vehicles equipped with an immobilizer by 2002. Only exception is that some TTs in 00 had an immobilizer.
Alright, I have an 01 225 Roadster 6-spd, I dont want to swap in the ecu and be immobilized (unless of course just putting back the other fixes it?) to find out if I have an immobilizer. It would be an Immo2 if I had one. If i do, and I swap the ecu, its not gonna work without following the steps from ross tech and I dont have a vag com, so yeah, any ideas?
