Default Problem with A/C and Electric Fans

The other day I was stopped at a drive through and my temp climbed up from the middle to about 3/4. I quickly turned on my heat full blast in the car to bring it back down until I got on the road.

When I got home, I let the car idle for a good 10 minutes and it didn't overheat. It was about 32 degrees outside so the cooling system is very efficient right now. I did notice that during that 10 minutes the electric fans never turned on, but maybe they didn't need to. I then tried to engage the A/C and the clutch wouldn't engage.

Could the fan controller keep the A/C from engaging if the Control Unit doesn't see that they are turning on? I'm not sure where to start here, but that seems to be a good place. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I found the problem/s. The driver side electric fan is siezed so that's a no brainer. The AC must be heating up and now allowing engagement. When I cold started the car, the AC and secondary fan came on.

One note, I was checking fuses and noticed that most of them were severely tarnished. I removed all of them and sanded the contacts to a bright finish. This may have fixed the AC problem too, I'm not sure.

Any good sources for the fan other than the dealer?

I found this one http://cpwstore.carpartswholesale.co...t=radiator+fan

Anybody know if the 225 and Base 1.8T have the same fan shroud?

According to my manual the A/C will not engage when the outside temp is low. Not sure if that helps but just so you aren't spinning your wheels.

That is good info, thanks. My fan is siezed and I found one on partsgeek that says it works on my AMU engine code "T VIN" for $114. We'll see.
