Ok now I hope I dont get flamed but...here goes.
Can you guysstart your car w/o pressing your clutch down?
Cause I can, if I keep my car in neutral and the hand brakes on, it will turn right on.
I've had a manual tranny car b4 but all my other cars wouldnt start w/o the clutch all in.
Is this an audi thing?
Just curious thats all.

Wow. have to try it. I don't think it will work on mine but I've never tried.

 

interesting as auto trannies don't let you make that mistake lol but testing the theory would be interesting an a manual tranny so here is how to test it, place car in garage facing the wall ( not the garage door ) place in first gear and crank without the E break on then say hello to Pete next door

 

someone might have by passed the clutch switch....its a little mod you can do

 

yeh, there is a plug there somewhere around your clutch pedal, see if its unplugged or been messed with. if so then thats why.

 

Yeah just heard about the clutch switch I'm gonna check it out tomorrow.
Try cranking it while in gear so when pete turns around surprised, ask him 4 a beer

My e30 bimmer didn't have that nice little feature. When I was 17 just after getting the car... I woke up late for school one morning and wasn't thinking... yah I didn't depress the clutch, turnedthe keyand went right through the garage door as it was opening... gouges all along the top of the carand the door was... yah let's not talk about that.I now appreciate that little safety measure of cars.
