Default thinking about getting a TT 225, 02 or 03, need your help deciding

I'm thinking of trading in my 2001 A6 2.7T for an 02 or 03 TT 225 6speed. I love my Audi, but I want to get something sporty and small. Since I live in the NYC area and drive daily, I need quattro (or AWD), which is obviously leading me to thing that TT is my only choice for an all year round sports car. I've seen some reviews pointing to issues with reliability, got concerned and decided to get any first-hand experiences with any problems people have.

What is the worst case scenario for a used TT, that's out of warranty?
are ther any common problem areas I should check prior to purchasing to avoid potential complications?

as a TT owner, what recomendations would you give to a potential TT driver?

thanks ahead to everyone.

Main issues.... Some have had problems with the Cluster failing. These can be fixed sometimes by BBA Remanufacturing for around $250 or replaced for around $1000. The other big issue is that the Timing Belt needs to be changed at 60K instead of the 100K recommended by Audi (many have failed and ruined engines at less than the 100K).

I've got a 2000 with 79K on it now and have very little in the line of problems, mostly normal maintenance.

i had a 99 a6 2.8 5v and it was dream to drive but i felt like the need for speed so i too got a 01 tt and love it. read some of my posts and you'll see why i like it so much. but yea i was a victim of the timing belt failing and had to get my engine head rebuilt. so you def want to make sure you get that taking care of before you plan any modding

i wonder if the timing belt failure can be addressed with Audi. If they recomend replacement at 100K and it fails prior to that, shouldn't they than be responsible for fixing the engine? Its not like you did anything wrong...

BTW XCLR8, how did you get the headlightlight inserts to match the paint? is that something you buy and plug-n-play or did you actually crack open the headlights? If you had to hack them, are fogging up? and if not, how did you do it so that they don't?
too many questions, I know, but I just think the car looks really hot with headlights like that!

twin, do a search for modding the headlights, there is a loooot of information available about it.

Basically, you put the headlight in the oven at about 200 degrees, allow the adhesive to soften, then carefully pry the lens off of the assembly. Remove the reflector, fill the holes, sand, paint, paint, paint, replace lens, and boom! 2-3 days later you're done (although, I'm going to try to do mine inside one day).
