Cool ~*~ New Owner / Need Advice / Suggestions ~*~

Hello, as you can tell, I'm a brand new member here.

I'm young and poor but I've recently started trying to upgrade my 2000 Audi A4 1.8 T Quattro, my dad is extremely good with cars of any make or model, but I'm guessing the veteran Audi owners who have gone through modifications and upgrades can give me some solid help.

Basically, I've got little money to work with but I'm trying to upgrade the performance and cosmetics of my A4 as much as possible.

Performance wise, the car is perfect for a stock A4, low miles, turbo spools up fine, etc

Cosmetics wise, I've upgraded the wheels from stock to 17 inch Sport Edition CE. I'm not too interested in making my next few upgrades cosmetic ones, mainly because the back bumper has nicks in it, I'm assuming it was hit with a few shopping carts or something...

So basically, I want to do some sort of chip upgrade, one of the best ones if possible, but I understand I should upgrade my air in/out of the car first. I am thinking about putting a Magnaflow muffler on the car and a cold air intake.

That's where I'm at...anyone have any input on anything? ( especially my bolded part )

dont bother with the CAI. stock intake is quite efficient and you really dont need more air in unless you go BT. chip is the fastest, easiest way to make power with relatively few supporting mods needed. you can do bigger injectors too, but make sure you do it in conjunction with the tune. It can get a little complicated as to what order to do what mod if you plan on doing more than that (more money).

the best thing to do is read the stickies. I'm sure you will find all your answers there.

BT?

I'm not even 100 % sure on the whole chip thing, how does it work? Do I order a program and they send me the connector from computer -> car (the OBD connector or something ? ) and I just put it on and adjust it accordingly?

I know the guy down the road from my dad's dealership does a lot of audi work and has all the proper computers as well, I'm just really new at this and when I say I don't have a lot of money, I just mean I have to be very specific to which I pick and choose to do first :d

if you could link me to said stickys that would be awesome too !

also, it's not a major concern of mine but it seems the LED Display in the center of these B5's goes out easily, especially if its hot out. are there any simple fixes for that?

They're the posts that are "stuck" at the top of the forum. BT = Big Turbo, like a GT28RS or a 2871R eliminator. Before you spend another dime on mods, make sure the timing system is good (has been changed within the last 60k miles) and be sure control arms, brakes, and suspension are up to par. The chip requires you to either send in your ECU or to make an appointment with a dealer for one of the tuning companies to have the ECU flashed. The sticky posts will reveal all

I don't see the ECU sticky, help this dummy out with a link please

And those are the only two ways? I'm really thinking after the muffler job to jump right into this flashing

*err and the whole timing system will be redone, my dad sold an a4 and there was issues with it, somehow the oil pump came off ...... but that's all fixed and the engine is replaced for the buyer, the engine that got ruined had literally just gotten the entire kit done to it, so I'm taking those parts of the pulleys off, putting them on mine and buying a new belt.

I am new here and I do not see a sticky in the forum for what I am asking...so I am simply asking someone who knows where it is to click copy and paste...A lot of the 'new user' links I've found on this forum are broken and take you to pages that do not exist and so forth...so instead of posting something pointless in my thread, could you either not? or try to be somewhat helpful instead of a douchebag...

try this

its an older post but entirely relevant. there are more after that one, but that should get you started.

not trying to be the d-bag here, but you are beginning to be the one that is...annoying. simple search and spending time reading the forums will answer all of your questions, as they are pretty common and as a result have been stickied to the tops of sub-forums.

it isn't that we mind answering questions, it is that what you have asked is a bit more complex than just "go here, do this" kind of answers. a lot depends on your budget, what is already done, how proficient you are at wrenching...etc. spend some time to educate yourself a bit

good luck

probably going to go with a stage 2 APR chip upgrade ~ anyone have any thoughts? I think it's around $550 or so, that sound right?

then down the road, go with an entire exhaust system, converter etc
