1.8T AWD Automatic MPG question
Greetings everyone,
I'm a newbie to this board and Audi's in general. I work part time for a shop (Beyond Redline in Green Bay Wisconsin) where we have done a fair amount of Audi maintenance for our customers.
I have always liked the B5 A4's and am considering purchasing one for a new daily driver. The plan would be to purchase it and then perform all the required maintenance such as timing belt/water pump, control arms, wheel bearings etc. I would also do appropriate fluid changes and other wear items such as spark plugs, o2 sensors, etc. What else am I missing from this list of things to watch for?
At the end of the day, my question is regarding realistic expectations of fuel economy. I drive a lot for my primary job (real estate agent) and plan to put between 15k and 20k a year. Most of my driving is done in highway settings with very little traffic and stop/go.
What can I expect with an all-wheel-drive automatic based car that is tuned up and ready to go? My guess would be between 25 and 30 mpg (mostly highway).
I would love to hear some real world feedback from the guys who know.
Anything that anyone can share from their experiences would be very appreciated.
Thanks,

I'm almost two weeks into my 1.8T and track my mileage religiously. As in calculating each tankful. I'm down-state from you, near the IL border and my daily commute is 80 miles where 90% of it is highway speeds.
So far, with three tankfuls, I've gotten from 26-28.5 mpg. Mind you, I have a 5speed, so there's a slight increase there, but you should be able to approach that.

I've had my 2001 since mid-December and I drive almost exclusively on the highway (25 mile commute to work). I get 26MPG pretty consistently if I do the speed limit, but it drops to 23-24 if I drive "normally" (75-85). My engine's got 105K on it, FWIW.
