Yeah, I'm pretty much relying on it being the problem because I don't know where else to turn. I suppose there's a chance something was missed when my lines were checked from my N75, or maybe the N75 itself. I haven't had any trouble codes for the N75, but from what I've read elsewhere, sometimes it can be faulty without resulting in codes.

If the TIP, N75/lines, and possibly re-intalling the MAF doesn't rid of my issues, I'll be forced with shipping the turbo back to Buy Auto Parts and getting resent a new one with one day shipping as part of their warranty. Luckily, my mechanic is family like previously mentioned, so I don't have to worry about the labor, although that doesn't mean I don't feel bad about making him redo the work. Actually, he was the one that told me to go cheap seeing as he has personally installed multiple Chinese K03's on some Audi's/VW's without issue to this point, but this is his first K04 knock-off.

As far as the software, ST said there's nothing much else he can do, mostly because he said the symptoms I'm having doesn't sound like software, but who knows.....

I'm going back to my initial thread here, but considering none of the overboost, MAF, nor shudder issues happened until I installed the K04, it does throw me off quite a bit. Obviously, the K04 is capable of making more airflow and PSI, but with this tune on my K03 and 4BAR, I wasn't reading over 20-21 tops. With the K04, easily 25-30+ since my gauge is maxed out after that.

Fun Fun! lmao

Default Wasetegate Check

The more I've been thinking about when we tested the pre-load required to open the WG, isn't it odd that it took 15+psi to open the WG the first time around, however every time thereafter only took 5psi or so? I have heard of WG's being sticky so to speak, but I've heard of more situations where the WG of after-market turbos needing to by physically adjusted by loosening/tighening bolts on the actuator arm.

Once we start the TIP replacement/N75 re-check, I suppose it can't hurt to also retest the pre-load needed to open the WG, and making sure it's fully closing as well. At least the initial test only required 5psi to repeatedly open the WG, so that's good I suppose, but that doesn't necessarily mean the WG isn't an issue though right? Could there still be something else not functioning properly even thought the crack-pressure is right on par?

Try the psi test again and see if it still takes 10+ psi on the first go. Also warm up your car to running temp and do the test again. I don't think heat would be a problem but it could be causing the flapper to stick (depending on what it is made of). Report back with how much it takes to open when warmed up.

Yup, definitely the plan. My psi has been more controlled since we tested it the first time which is good, however like stated before there's still some issues with overboosting at times. During the first test, we simply watched the actuator arm move appropriately when shooting in the air, so we physically didn't see the wastegate open, however in regards to how far the arm was moving and experience with moving it prior to installation and understanding of how far the arm moves when the wastegate opens, it appeared it was opening completely/correctly. However, when we install the TIP I'd like to watch the actual WG open/close this time around just to make sure.

You would have to take off the exhaust connection at the turbo to see the flapper (if you didn't already know). Good luck, keep me up to speed.

Well, this isn't much of an update, but yea....

I've been driving with continued issues of periodic overboost, power shudder, etc....

The only time the shudder occurs is in 3-5th, and it's not 100% of the time, but I'd say at least 70% or more, seems to be contigent on weather (happens more when it's warmer vs colder)....in MN it's 15-20 degrees, but when it has been 30-40 degrees or so the shudder is more prominent.

I have an appt thus Thursday to switch out the stock TIP with 251K for a Silicone one, and we shall see if that fixes these issues. The more my mechanic and I have thought about it, a collapsing/restricted TIP pretty much sums up all the symptoms I'm having, but we'll see....

Should have an update on Thu or Fri......

I still can't believe the tip could be the problem, are you sure you aren't misfiring? When I went frankenturbo I had to delete my icm, put in new plugs, and upgrade to 2.0tfsi coils to get rid of my misfiring issues which basically made my car undriveable at decent acceleration because of the shuddering. As far as the overboost, if you have ruled out the wastegate, it might be the n75 or the lines attached to it need replaceing. I can't remember if you already replaced the n75, I believe you did

I haven't replaced the N75 since about two years ago. It definitely isn't a misfire issue because I've had those before due to bad spark plugs and coil pack issues. I do know that if the TIP is collapsing, it can very well affect boost and power. Like I've said before, if the requested air mass isn't what's being received, both things will be affected, including a code for MAF. Ultimately, everyone I've talked to outside of online forums believe the logistics involved of a collapsing TIP, airflow requested/received, and everything affected when those things aren't functioning properly could be the culprit. I've been digging non-stop about all this stuff, and after talking to a couple other performance shops (one in Canada and one in Chicago)......they both agreed that it makes sense. I guess we'll see on Thursday, but just in-case I did purchase a MBC. If the TIP is the solution like many people think (including myself), and it fixes my spikes/overboost, I'll just sell it. I've already mentioned this before, but when we install the TIP, we're going to put in another N75 we have laying around and re-check the lines for the 3rd time just because we can.

The other thing is that none of this happened until I installed the K04. Remember, I had all the same stuff before the K04 install and had ZERO issues. I had the same N75, Software, etc etc....so the added airflow/boost from the K04 causing the old *** TIP to collapse makes the most sense to me at this point now that the WG is opening at 5-6psi as it should. Trust me, my fingers are crossed that it's the TIP.....boy let me tell ya!

Well, the TIP is installed, and still having some of the same issues.

The overboost is still present, thus will be installing a MBC next Thursday. The shudder is still present, however not as violent at this point, haven't had the chance to fully let loose in 4th gear yet. But, in 3rd gear the car is still hesitating from 3000-5000 rpm, while the boost gauge goes crazy. Heck, even in 2nd gear I hit a huge spike and the damn thing went into limp mode, stuck at 5psi. I haven't hit limp much at all, so kind of shocked it just happened today, oh well it is what it is.

We didn't replace the N75 because my mechanic was SO sure it wasn't the problem, not too mention it is only 2 years old. The only other N75 he had to install on hand was my old one that had over 175K on it, no thanks. Then again, I thought the TIP would solve all of my issues, so that's primarily why I didn't want to chance putting in an even older N75. When we ran the car while running Vag-Com awhile back, the boost values showed the N75 was working great, so I don't know if it could still be bad even though Vag was showing everything as being tip top?

At this point, I don't know......maybe it's the software, although I didn't have any issues with it while running the K03, so I find that hard to believe. Nothing else was giving me problems until I installed the turbo, so I'm starting to think there could be a problem with that. I mean, they also tested the N75 lines leading to the actuator by pressure and it appeared fine. What else would cause the car to lightly shudder/hold back during the higher gear/higher rpm range? The issue only occurs in 3rd-4th-5th, but never in 1st or 2nd......SO frustrating....
