Default 2001 A4 ABS Module help!!!

So my ABS light is on and the brake light on the cluster is blinking. The shop I went to said its due to a bad module causing my ABS to engage and causes my brake pads to prematurely to wear unevenly. They quoted me $900 for the whole thing. Is that a fair price???

$900 is insane, probably based on the price of a brand new unit which is completely unnecessary. There are people/companies that rebuild these things for $100-$150, just google abs unit rebuild.

there is a reset procedure using the paid ($99) version of VCDS lite, which involves steering wheel position and entering codes based upon your model specs. try this first. if this fails, then send the module off to a rebuild company for less than $150.

So the mechanic told me that for $900 I get a new module ($700+) w/ a 2 year warranty and replace all my brakes & rotors. I called the closest Audi dealer & their estimate is $1300+ for parts & $700+ for the Labor which is more insane if you ask me.

I also read a lot of articles online that the 96-01 A4 & VW Passat have these common issues which Audi never recalled in the first place.

Why would you pay $900 if you can get it rebuilt for $150? Brake pads and rotors are cheap and very easy to do yourself, or if you really don't like doing it yourself then take it in to a shop for that. You'll save yourself $100s.

Exactly, even if you can't/don't want to do pads and rotors yourself, get it rebuilt for $150 and pay the mechanic for the brake job afterwards. Instead of paying $900 you'll be paying $400 at most, and that's assuming a $250 brake job which is a high estimate.

I would be extraordinarily surprised if you had to reprogram anything. Even if you did, run the numbers.

$150 for rebuild
$250 (stretching it) for brake job
$100 at most for reprogram (if even needed)

That's $400 less than your mechanic quoted...
