Ya and the kit was the same price as Ecs turnings kit

 

Be sure you inspect the parts from ECS Tuning as well prior to installation so you do not end up with the same situation again. The packaging or part will usually have a manufacturing origin somewhere.

I am always suspect of parts coming from China as to their quality.

Mtroxel made a good point with price points on parts being an issue. With a project car ecs and blau come in really good on parts pricing especially when a car needs multiple things fixed engine, cooling, chassis parts etc. The Audi OEM timing belt kit 078-198-119-A retails for 273.50 with your discounted price bringing it to 203.48 dollars and in stock. That's still double what you probably paid to get the same kit from ECS. Again, xmas time is a rough time to buy car parts but the extra 100.00 buys OEM parts and insurance that you shouldn't have parts issues. Averaged out over the course of the next 6-7 years until you replace the belt again, in my opinion it's not that much extra. I read all 12 pages and you've got quite a story on this job. I kept guessing with everybody else on here as to what is wrong, but the thermostat was what shocked me most.

Not really related, but I had an old Toyota corrolla that was inconsistent with heating the interior through the heater core. I thought the core was plugged but it turned out the heater valve was bad. It must have had an o ring in it that depending on pressure would allow flow through it, then it wouldn't. I could back flush the cooling system and it would work for a short while, then plug up. Newer cars now have blending doors, not many heater valves on these newer cars.

 

I paid $200 for the timing kit and only $200 on labor this time

 

Ok so got car back Saturday been driving it and no problems yet the only thing I noticed is if in city it does normal temp half way but on highway it does two notches below half any ideas why . The three years I owned this prior it never did this. Could it just be cause all the new parts including the new radiator just really cooling the coolant? But otherwise runs great doesn't sound like its gunna come apart

 

I've driven B5's for over 10 years, and the temp gauge always points straight up, no matter what the outside temp, how I'm driving etc.

Not sure what that is. No matter how well its cooling, the thermostat should keep the temp at a constant temperature. After all you've been through, I'm not sure I'd worry much as long as you have heat.

 

I've driven B5s since 1998, mine's always been in the middle, straight up as well, and I've done many timing belt kits...driven in 100 degrees and even -20 degrees.....I'm with Mtroxel, if it's working, you have heat, drive it for awhile.....and go from there.

 

Ok ya there is heat so I'll just let it be I guess was just worried lol like you said already been through how much with this damn car lol. And another thing I just realized I've owned this car for I've three year and never noticed it has a euro trunk on it. I was looking at my gfs and noticed the difference and the whole time I've owned it I was like man I want a euro trunk

 

Could a too strong of coolant mixture or to diluted mixture cause it to cool a lot
