97 1.8t starter wiring question
I recently had a no start problem that I'm trying to diagnose. After replacing the starter and ignition switch I'm still not getting anything. So I pulled the starter again and had the local FLAPS test it on the way to work this morning. According to their diagram, when the guy put power to the spade terminal on the upper left as seen in image 10 here as his computer tells him to do:

(my starter has 2 spade connectors) there is nothing. If he puts power to the other spade connector the motor spins. I'm 99% sure it was hooked up to the one in the pic when I took it the old starter off.
So, which one should it be hooked up to? Will it hurt it to hook up to the other side if I can even get it on the connector?
