99 2.8 quattro with issues
Hey guys , new here lookin for advice . I went autozone to get my codes read . They could make a connection to the ecu . I have had the car for 2 weeks , and it is killing me on gas . Ive put on just over 600 miles on her and taken 280 to keep gas in the tank . Its acting like its in limp mode with a bad tps . Though Audi doesnt use a tps , and mine isnt turbo so there should be no limp mode . My car is not dbw . I did the adaptation with no improvements . Any pointers would be much appreciated .
So... were you able to pull the codes? That's the starting point.
You can get a generic reader at Advance Auto Parts for $40.
Is the car a manual or auto transmission? If auto, you'll know if it's in limp mode because all the gears will be illuminated and you won't be able to get out of first or second gear.
On my 98.5 at least, I've always needed VAG-COM to do a throttle body alignment -- the key method doesn't work.

If it's the MAF, I have a working Bosch unit for $20 and live in Boston. I've also got a generic ODBII cable and VCDS lite.
The only time I got into limp mode was driving with the MAF unplugged.
