Hey everyone,

My steering is giving me trouble. For some reason it makes this weird noise from under the hood when I turn. Sort of like a grinding. Going straight= no noise. Just when I turn either way.

Any ideas? I don't even know how to have a mechanic look into this, since sometimes theres no noise at all turning. (wtf)

Sounds like either your power steering belt or power steering fluid is low or empty. Look into that....

 

Does it change with temperature?

It could also be the power steering pump itself. How does the fluid look? Clean and translucent or dirty?

 

not sure how to check belt, the fluid is fine and has been fine since I owned it. Not sure how to check if its dirty tho.

 

it does seem to change with temp, a lot of times when car is cold I wont hear noises. Once its nice and hott and ive been driving awile the noise is usually loud n noticeable with windows up...

but its also made the noise when cold and non when hot. but mostly what i said above.

how do i test the fluid?
