So i am looking to buy a new car and at the moment the a4 is fairly high on my list but im really not sure how fast it is since i have not test driven one before but my main questions are:

Which b5 a4 is the fastest/quickest?
How reliable are the B5's (other then the timing belt)?
How does the b5 a4 compare to the b5 s4 speed wise?
Also i hear that the 12v is not easily moded is that true? and if so which model is easily modded?

1.8t is more quick and easier to mod performance wise
s4 will always destroy unless you have a big turbo or a super charger in a 2.8 ($5000)
all v6 models dont have much you can do to them
2.8 is more reliable but 1.8t seem to be more fun i kinda want to trade mine in for one

 

also do the 1.8t's come in the quarttro?
and if so are they faster/quicker or slower when they have the quattro?

 

Im with Roll, 1.8t you can do alot to, but if you have the money for a S4 then i would get one of those, Stage 3 that sucker and you can kill just about anything.. i still want to get one and make it a track car. the early 96-97 2.8s are the 12v, and i dont even think you can chip those.

 

1.8ts do come in Quattro, and i think you get a better jump on people because of limited/no wheel spin. and most people get audis for the quattro, i KNOW quattro has saved my life a few times and im not even kidding. the car is totally worth it. ill never buy from a different car company, and ill never buy a Audi w/o Quattro.. nothings better then phauling ***** in the snow in a car.

 

how much do you have to spend?

1.8t has about the same amount of mods as the S4

if you have 8k to spend get yourself a low mileage A4, 1.8t, 5-speed, quattro
If you have 14k to spend get a low mileage S4, 2.7t, 6-speed, they are only available in quattro

try not to buy a high mileage vehicle and make sure they have maintenance records...have the car checked out by a certified audi/vw mechanic before making any purchases
