Default ABS light question

So this is my first post and I don't want to get flamed on but I have got a question about the abs light. I am looking at a 1999 a4 avant 1.8tqm. I searched this but I was unable to get any good information. The abs light is on and is solid and so is the airbag light. The guy wants 6,500 for the car with 126,000 miles, but is willing to negotiate. It's a really clean car, but the ABS light is what really worries me. Any opinions?

you'll need to pull codes. most likely causes for the abs light is faulty module or abs sensors. airbag light is probably the harness under the driver's seat that comes loose when you put the seat too far back. again, pulling the codes will make sure. talk to the guy about the problems. talk him down to 4500-5000. check the history of the car and make sure to test drive the hell out of it. you'll find that the clutch engages really high which is an audi feature so don't worry about it. good luck

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I went and test drove the car. The clutch does need to be let out pretty far before it grabs. Is there any way to adjust when the clutch becomes engaged?

my car isnt manual, but ive driven a stick vw before, im not sure if the reverse is the same, but you might need to push down then over to go into reverse.

Yeah I noticed that. It is kinda weird at first but I have test driven a few of the audi manuals and I have gotten somewhat used to pushing down and then finding reverse. Are there any opinions on the avant. Should I go avant or just get a sedan. I wanted to be a little more original and thought that avant would be the way to go. A badass wagon would be sweet.

if you need the room go for the avant. it's better weight ratio but a little bit heavier. those wagons are badass though.

take the car for a test drive and stop by autozone - they usually will pull the codes for free.

Yeah I called Autozone about them pulling up the codes. They said that they don't do that anymore which sucks but I am wondering about how much do you think it would cost me to get a mechanic to diagnose the lights and pull up the codes. Just a ballpark guesstimate would be fine.

At a dealer, probably an hour's labor. At an independent shop, you can probably stop in and ask the guy if he'd do it for $20 or so.
