airbag expires and needs replacement in 2011 ? really ?

Airbag maintenence tests and check-ups are in the factory service manuals for Porsche, Audi, and VW. It's not for the dealers to screw you. It's for the lawyers not to screw everyone involved with useless lawsuits such as "expired" airbags.

Im aware many foreign cars have these labels, American cars do not. I can see it being a legal matter, but if it is such a pressing issue, why dont american makers do it? the last time I read the sticker I thought it insinuated replacing all of the airbags, not just checking them, how expensive.
BTW, when I had an airbag light on before I bought my VAG and took it to the dealer to scan it, they told me it was the seat airbag, and I said after reading on the forum "can it just be a loose wire under the seat" they said "nope, we have to replace these all the time", called another dealer, same thing. Read their service manual and it says step 1: check wiring.
I think those car makers are covering their ***, but also aware of how scared people can be of an "expired airbag" and how much dough they can get out of them...
