Note - Audi axles don't have circlips. They bolt in at both ends. The only end that's gonna come out is the inner end - use blue thread locker on the bolts and torque them to spec. The outer has huge torque and the wheel bearing housing will half-life itself to death before it comes loose.

can you elaborate what popping out means? is the bolt in there? did you get the right axle? 01's have a bigger wheel bearing and differen spline than older cars

i just pop it off with a mallet... brace the axle, hit the cv on the hard part close to the axle, and it pops out, there's like a c ring thing inside of it on the axle that holds it.

Idk. When it happens i put it in a gear and it won't move. Lol from what I understand its the cv joint thats not staying in place. Yes I got the right axle. And yes the bolt is in there. When the vehicle stops and won't move, I get out my torque wrench and tighten it up and I can drive it again until it loosens up again. I've been driving slow.
