Default broken bolt...?

Hey so I started to take off my front bumper so that I can remove the engine to do the clutch. The passenger side bolt came out, but the drivers side bolt cracked. so i only have half and the bumper will not come off. any ideas where to go with this?

How far was the bolt un-threaded before it broke? How much thread is left in there?

id say about 60% of the thread is still in the receiving part of the bumper

If it's only one side, you can swing the bumper out some, lube it up really well (just the threaded area) and try drilling a hole big enough to use an extractor on it......or Vice grips.

Do you have any pics?

This sucks Zero. I don't know if you can an extractor and vice grips in there.

Here's one idea. It's just threaded into an aluminum plate that's riveted to the top side of the bumper frame. Can you put a long punch up there and beat the broken bolt straight up? The idea is to break that aluminum plate so that maybe the bolt will drop out of the threads. Its worth a shot.

Another idea I had was if you can get a high powered drill in there (18+V), then you might be able to grip onto the bold (like a drill bit) and unscrew it by "drilling" it out.

My 18V Dewalt has a "Hammer" setting - almost like an air ratchet (for masonry work). That might do it.

It's a tough one zero. As your last resort, you might have to cut a hole in the top of the plastic cover so you can break up that plate the bolt is threaded into.

A pic would be nice.

I'd love to help you get this done "easily", because having to blow out the threads would suck.

sorry for the delayed response. I finally got the bumper off. I created my own tool using the torx and a wrench to pull off the mount to the frame. The biggest problem is you can't get the socket and ratchet in there(no space). so if you take the torx and put a wrench and muscle behind it you can loses the mount to frame bolts. (I skipped the step for removing the bumper from the mount) Then when the mount was off the frame, I cut out the bolt. Then drilled and re-tapped. Ended up working great! now to swap suspension parts!
