Default Central Locking Replacement Pump

Hi, I just purchased a 2nd hand vacuum pump for the central locking on my B5. The code on the replacement ends in a letter E (same as my original). The replacement also came with a 3 button key (again, like my original). The problem: I can use central locking with the key that was sent with the replacement pump but I can't sync my original keys to central lock with the replacement pump. Any ideas please?

Do you have two keys?

Put one into the ignition, turn to 'on' (i.e. don't start the car - just give it electronic power), then close the door and with the other key, lock and unlock a few times. I believe that's the normal way to sync keys.

Thanks very much for your response - much appreciated. The problem is that I have all of the original keys which will work in the door locks and ignition; however, the key that came with the replacement pump will only operate remotely - it won't work in the door or in the ignition so I can't sync in the way you suggested.

I have got a bit closer by using your method with my 2 original keys, but it only set one of them up with the remote locking. I swapped them around in the door and ignition and tried again but no joy with the second key. Any ideas would be most welcome please

I forget how to do it exactly but it's something like that.
If you put one known working key in the ignition then close the door and press the unlock/lock a few times with the fob, that might do it? Sorry I don't remember.
It may also be that fob-only 'keys' have to be programmed with VCDS (or at the dealership).

Well it's good to have made some progress from your reply; at least I'm back to having one fob on my key ring for now . I'll keep working at it and thanks again for your help .
