cheap/easy ways to increase acceleration?
The most easy way to tell if your car is DBC or DBW is to see if your gas pedal is curved. If it is curved, you have a DBW. If it is flat and has a sort of hinge at the bottom, you have DBC.
The other obvious ways are to look at your throttle body and see if there is a cable coming from it that goes into your firewall, or to take your knee bolster off and look at the top of your gas pedal for a cable attached to it - both of these would indicate DBC. If there is no cable, then you have DBW.
By the way, CHEAP ways (which is what you asked for) to get some better numbers would be to:
Get a better air filter, maybe mod your airbox,
Get bigger fuel injectors with a corresponding tune - this could get pricey and I'm not sure if it's possible
Change your trans/diff fluid since it would reduce friction,
Index your spark plugs (this means having the arc on the plug pointing towards your fuel injectors for quicker combustion),
Hollow your cat out - this takes a bit of work to have your car running with no CEL and pass emissions; around here they scan for codes to check emissions, so if you can trick your ECU into thinking your cat is good, you can pass.
You could also shave the engine head, use a thinner head gasket, or do both since it would increase your compression ratio.
Note: I have never done any of these things, but I just figured I would throw some ideas at you. Some of the guys on here might know that it's not good to shave the 2.8 engine head or that it's not possible to get a tune for bigger injectors with a N/A 2.8.
It is possible to increase horsepower with a N/A car without adding superchargers and things like that. Every little thing you do can increase horsepower by a bit.
You should know that 5 seconds isn't a realistic 0-60 time for the amount of money you want to spend, but maybe you can get half a second on factory if you treat her right

i think its cheaper to sell the audi and just get a different car, if i were to do that
I know of a newly built shortblock 1.8 that you could buy. Then you can buy my old AEB head and start gettin serious on a build that will cut your 5 second 0-60 time in half... just sayin...
But as far as I can tell, "Welcome to LaLa Land, population AlexMurphy"
