Default Chipped ecu question

I have a 98 audi a4 1.8t part car that i have access to. There were some mods done to the car, exhaust, intake, turbo timer, and a couple other things. So i thought to check the ecu to see if it was chipped. I was pulling the ecu out of a parts car i have, seeing if it was chipped. Well it is chipped. And this is coming out of the ecu. It goes to a little push button under the dash. So we tried pushing the button, in my car, while it was running and the CEL blinked 7 times, then blinked 7 more times. Well then we turned off the car, then turned it on but not started and did the same thing. This time it blinked 8 times followed by 2. We test drove it everytime to see if there was a difference in boost. I'm driving a 98 audi a4 1.8t. Does anyone have any idea what this is or how to use it.

Not too clear of what you're saying but I'm guessing you have APR flip switch.

Do some research and it'll tell you how many times it'll blink and what program it's running.

Ok. Yeah. it's a switch, But it's not apart of the steering wheel at all. Like i don't use the crusie control. Guess it's another way of doing it. OK. thanks.

I believe GIAC also has switchable tunes. I don't suppose there's anything written on the ECU anyplace?

GIAC tune needs a flash loader to switch. It's a separate unit that's plugged into the OBD-2.

That was the first thing we looked at to see if there was any kind of labeling on the chip. There isn't. all it says it it's an amd chip, which doesn't help anything. I'll take a closer look today to see if we missed anything. I found this video, hoping it's gonna help.

Ok, so i've determaned there are 3 different modes. Is there any way to tell what each of them do? i haven't noticed a difference driving the 3 with premium fuel.

Yeah that definitely sounds like an APR flash then. To my knowledge they have 4 possible options:

1. Stock
2. Valet
3. 93 octane
4. Race gas

In California, the 93 octane map is actually only 91 octane. My guess is you have three of these four. Do you have a boost gauge? That would be one way to tell the difference between stock/valet and whatever the other one is. You might also call up APR and see what they can do for you as far as identifying the tunes.

I was looking at the boost on the 3. 2 of them where 11 lbs in all gears. and 1 was 8 in first and second and 11 in the rest. But again. That's running on 91 octane.
