So almost about two weeks ago i was washing the ol 2.8 30v and i asked my bro to back up the car so he started up. Everything seemed fine for a second then i heard this clicking... So i poped of the engine covers, put a screwdriver on the engine then my ear to the screwdriver... just as i thought, still sounding like a sewing machine... i kept listening and looking and havent found much besides it sounds like its coming from the air intake box... i am jacking it up tomor morning to see further.

P.S. And i have heard the noise come and go inconsistantly, i havent noticed it while i was driving, and it doesnt seem get louder or softer as RPMs flux. so there it is, any suggestions will help thanks.

Are you saying you hear the clicking sound when you first crank the car and it's idling or when your buddy was backing up the car?

Yes its usually after i start it up and its idling. I have been driving with no music on to try to hear when it starts clicking and stops and still no answers i can just slightly hear it from the cabin, but if i raise the hood and sit in the cabin i can hear it better. From what i can tell, is that it doesnt get louder as i raise the RPMs i think the engine noise muffs it out kinda and it doesnt react to turns and raising and lowering of speeds as i drive.

 

Does the clicking speed up with RPM increase though? Thats a major thing we need to know.

 

yes it speeds up and seems to be coming from the Purge CV???
