Default driver's side valve cover gasket and...

1. Replaced it this weekend(valve cover gasket), used RTV black, let it sit overnight. Did pretty much all I read about in procedure. Leaks worse now than before (different spot though). Coming out of the side right over the back bolt of the exhaust mani. drip SMOKE drip SMOKE. I think I may have over torqued the bolts...it's all I can think of that I may have done wrong. I replaced the two large breather hoses ...they were brittle and one was broken when I bought the car so maybe it could be a breather problem...they were not that clogged just busted up though...

2. looks like smoke is coming from the passengerside of the a/c condenser. I do not see any holes or where it is coming from exactly. Smells like anti freeze to me. May be a hole in the radiator behind the condenser.??

long story short anybody have the exact torque spec in lbs. for the valve cover bolts. Any further ideas would help too!! Might try to Seafoam the crap outa the breather tree this weekend.

**side note...the gasket did seem a little large ....perhaps I did not get a good seal....

They actually ship RTV with the gaskets....I assumed that I should use it. I know what asuming does! Perhaps I should not have....Lots of guys here are doing it with no issues. I am thinking I went a 'lil too tight...heard that is a problem with some installs

Can he take the valve covers off again and reseat everything, or does that ruin the gaskets? I need to know this because this is next on my list, and it would help to know whether I've got one(and only one) shot to get it right per gasket set, or if you can take off the valve covers and try again if it doesn't work the first time.

If it hasnt been on long it can be reset, but be sure to reinspect the gasket for any damage and clean all the oil off the mating sufaces. I've done over a dozen valve cover gaskets and never got or used RTV or had to reset them. Good luck I hope it works

I will try it without..I will get it off...just gotta watch the corners and start with the triangle piece in front. I just did it on sat. and drove the T/A today....hopefully it will be good. I put another on order just in case...if not needed I will replace the pass. side!

Wow, that's not much. Seems like much less than hand tight.

I def. went over that. I used my stubby 1/4 drive ratchet so I would not strip them but made them as tight as I could and I am not a small man...ooops
