Default few noob questions.

2001.5 1.8t owner here with a few questions.

One, my car is a tip. I hate it. It makes the car sooo much more sluggish than it needs to be. Plus I feel retarded for spending money on trying to make an auto quicker.. i know the auto and manual have different crankshafts, but the other day i was looking at an auction for a 1.8t that came from an auto... It said "For use with automatic transmission only, if your car is a manual we sell an adapter for 100$".

If this god-send of an adapter works, how much would i look at dropping for a manual? and could I use a 6-speed, or just the 5-speed they normally come with.

Also, I'm looking at getting a set of HID's. But what size bulbs are our low-beams?
oh, and if anyone is interested in a quality kit at a decent price, look into this one, if they have the proper bulb size.

A lot of people on the celica boards are using this kit without and problems.

Third... I really want to get one of those magnaflow universal mufflers and make a custom exhaust.. but they're only in 2.25, and i'd prefer to run 2.5 inch to squeeze what performance I can out of this thing.. but will I really be able to notice a difference from that quarter inch?

Thanks in advanced. :]

Not sure if you can use the six speed or are stuck with the five - someone else can field that one. As for converting anyhow, it's gonna cost you, both in money for parts and time (or money) for labor, and in a big way from what people usually say on here. It's typically along the lines of, if you want a stick that badly, sell your tip car and buy one with a stick.

For HIDs, you want H7 bulbs and don't go over 6000k color temp, or you'll lose the visibility that makes HIDs worth their cost.

As for the muffler, I'd have to think that unless you go with a big turbo upgrade, you'll probably breathe just fine through a 2.25" exhaust. With a BT setup and running high boost, the extra breathing capacity would make more difference, but on basic upgraded boost (ie, an off-the-shelf chip for an OEM turbo) I don't think the 2.25" is going to hold you back.

Default RE: few noob questions.

they make a chip ($455 installed) for our car that bumps our HP 45 and our TQ 55, this should be your second mod, right after a boost guage, and your third mod will be a diverter valve (a 71on from an audi TT will cost ya $35) to go along with it. take a look at GIACusa.com for a chip

if you get a manual tranny, you would need to do a bit of work....you could get the 5spd from a 1.8 or 2.8 (2.8 would be better) I have seen the S4 6spd in a B5, but i am not sure what it took to get it in there... they also have something calles a tip chip (which make the shifts a whole lot faster) and if you plan on doing some big mods and decide to stay automatic you can get a level 10 tranny upgrade to handle the added power

if you want a good cheap set of hids...go to vvme.com...expect to wait a couple weeks for them to ship, they come directly from a chineese warehouse...they have proven themselves to be worth the wait in *most* cases

as for exhaust....go 2.5" piping back to a magnaflow muffler, should cost you somewhere between $300-350...the stock exhaust piping is very restrictive.

gl....there is a sticky in the general A4 forum for newbies that covers alot of what I have just told you

1. don't know, try calling the manufacturer of the adaptor and do a search for transmission swaps - I'm sure it's been covered somewhere on the "old A4" forum before.
2. VVME.com orflashplus on Ebay - spend ~$80 for H7 bulbs and ballast kit.
3. 2.25" is fine for a stock K03 or K04turbo, maybe replace the (baffler/front muffler/or whatever you want to call it) w/ a straight pipe.

this is the parts list you need for a 6 speed conversion for a manual car. i dont know if it would work with that adapter, but it might.Name: 6speedconversionpartnumbers-1.jpg

i got my kit from vvme and love it, its a slight risk cause they have horrible customer service but most people dont have problems. it ships from china, some people get it in 4 days, others (like mine) get lost for a week, and then show up. low beams are h7, so are high beams, and fogs are h1

i have 2.5". you can get custom 2.5" piping and a 2.5" borla muffler. or just buy the techtonics cat-back exhaust

i have 8000k and they have great visibility, much better than stock. wouldn't go any higher tho unless you just want a blue light

anyway, things like a boost gauge/DV are a given haha..

Where would I go about finding a used tranny? I looked on ebay to no avail and I'm at a loss to think of anywhere else to find one..
