Fuel Pump Question...

Fuel Pump Question...
I am currently stranded in Destruction Bay, YT, on the Alcan, with a dead fuel pump. Sourcing parts is a huge problem. Mail only comes to this village three days a week. I got a fuel filter out of Whitehorse (160 miles away), but they sent the wrong one. My fuel pump is a few days away and I'm worried it, too, will be wrong. So, I've taken the fuel pump motor out of the "basket". That is all that is bad; just the actual motor. I can get 12V, in-tank motors for Fords, Chevys, etc. out of Whitehorse. Has anyone used a non-Audi fuel pump motor as a replacement? The dimensions are 5" long and 2 5/8" diameter and I can't imagine that a slightly smaller pump would be an issue used in the basket. Are there any considerations for pump volume etc? I don't imagine that any of these little pumps would overwhelm a return line.
I really need to get to Fairbanks by Monday. Any thoughts or ideas would be welcomed. I'm stuck in the Yukon. I'm just trying to get to Fairbanks where I can make more appropriate repairs.

If you have the pump out I would just take the pump with you and see if you match one up.
We only sell them as a assembly with the basket and all.
Whats the part number of the pump you ordered? Pretty much all B5 A4's use the same pump.

While I've got you... Would you know if a Mann WK725 Fuel filter is a direct replacement for the Bosch 0 450 905 087 I removed? The filter they previously sent had slip-on connections. My car uses Banjo bolts on both ends. They have that WK725 in stock, but I won't be able to lay eyes on it until I borrow a vehicle and drive to Whitehorse to pick up the pump.
Thanks again,

realisitcally you should be able to get any pump to work. if you get it and it doesnt fit perfect, fit something around the pump to hold it tight in the basic. i actually use orings to hold my aftermarket pump in.

Below is the picture of the Mann filter we carry with the part number you listed (which is correct for the application).
The fuel pump you ordered is correct as well. It matches up with the part number we sell on our site for your vehicle.

Made it.
Got the pump and filter to Whitehorse. Swapped them out last night. Had to use original housing and screen with the new pump in it. The new housing looked identical but would not lock in place (we wrestled it for hours). Huge difference in fuel filter resistance. Pretty sure that's what killed the pump. All is well that ends well, though. Made it to Fairbanks. Thanks for all your help. I'll be an ECS customer in the future...
