Default Help! ICM Location on '98 a4

Hi all,

I am in the midst of trying to diagnose a suspected failed ignition control module on my '98 a4 1.8t. I have seen several posts on this site and others saying that the ICM is located on top of the air box, but it is not there on my particular model. Can someone tell me exactly where to find the ICM on my car?

If you are good with wiring, you can actually remove the ICM and replace all the coil packs with a newer style for ~$160 (I just did), which is about $50-100 less than the cost of a new ICM. You will also get a slightly smoother idle, stronger spark, and slightly smoother acceleration.

This is of course assuming the ICM is bad... I decided to remove mine by doing this conversion before the ICM failed though.
