Default Help replacing cat. One bolt wont come off.

Does anybody have any experience in replacing a cat on a 99.5 1.8t? I was able to take 2 bolts out from the cat to downpipe. But one wont come off, now the thread is gone. Its the one closest to the engine. Do I have to cut it? Please HELP!

i put on a milltek exhaust a few months ago and had to cut out 2 of the bolts between the cat and downpipe with an acetaline torch. you can try drilling or using one of those broken bolt retriever bits but good luck getting a drill in there.

It's a pain but you can unhook the downpipe from the rest of the exhaust and then pull the downpipe out the top to get at the bolt. It's a pain though.

Are you getting at the bolts/nuts from the top or bottom? The bolts are welded to the cat on top and you gotta get the nuts off from the bottom with a long extension. If you got them out from the top, they had to have broke off.
