Default i think i need a new clutch!!!

I bought this car and put a new turbo and when i took it for a test the car doesn't have any power. It's a 1.8 manual quattro. The car starts off fine in the first gear but when you go into second, about when it hits the 3-4 rpm range it looses its power. it will take some time for it to speed up. and when you give it a lot of gas you can hear the clutch disk scrapping ??? i think that's what it is. the clutch is almost done, since it lets go all the way up. anyways, i was planning on putting a new clutch in and wanted to know if anyone has come up to something like this and could help me out before i order a new clutch. any help would be appreciated.

to check if the clutch is gone, get up to 30mph then shift into 5th gear and floor the gas. If the RPMs shoot straight to redline then you have a shot clutch, on the other hand if the rpms stay low then you probably dont need one right away.

These are the affects of a slow car with a clutch on the way out. After you get the clutch fixed, get yourself a chip.

yup you need a new clutch, same thing happened to me. i just had it replaced with an oem saches clutch kit. but there are many types of aftermarket clutch kits. now that i look back onto it, i think i would go with an aftermarket clutch, like a stage 2.
but you can find more info on that by searching the forums, tons of info out there..

Make sure you have your plans in order before getting a clutch. You can play it safe and get a stage 3 or 4 (southbend) clutch. Or if you have absolutely no other plans other than a chip, a stock clutch will be fine and you'll save a couple hundred bucks.

i think a stage 2 southbend kit would be about the same $$ as a stock OEM kit and would hold up much better to a chip. you wouldnt have to ever replace the clutch again (if you dont have any other plans to mod) and you would retain the easy stock pedal feel.

if your going that route, definately send mike a PM, he knows what hes doin, hes getting me some transmission parts in the next few weeks.
