Default Infamous coolant pipe leak solved!

I know many people have had or still have this problem and I wanted to share my simple, but effective solution to the problem. Since I've owned this car, I've experienced a coolant leak where the coolant flange connects to the metal coolant pipe.

I've replaced the flange twice and also tried just replacing the o-ring where the pipe connects in hopes of fixing the leak once and for all. The outcome each time was only a temporary fix or only appeared to slow down the leak.

I thought of an idea to place not one, but TWO o-rings where the pipe connects to see what would happen and VOILA! Not even one drop leaking out now. It seems that the design of how the o-ring seats itself inside the flange and pipe is not making a seal that's tight enough, thus causing the leak. Now there is a perfectly tight seal!‏

awesome bro, I'm glad you fixed your issue. Thanks for sharing your fix.

I don't have a coolant leak as of yet, i have an 01 A4 B5, maybe they fixed that issue in 01, that the 00 had?

Thanks man. Not sure if it's just an issue with the 2000 model to be honest. I've just seen a bunch of posts from a few different audi/vw forums with people complaining about it on their 1.8t

Are you using an OEM flange and oring? I had the exact same issue with an aftermarket oring that was obviously way too thin.

You see the irony of the situation is that you are never ever ever ever supposed to use two O-rings.. at least in 95% of the applications in which they are used.

Yet you my friend have defied modern engineering.

Nobel prize coming your way.

Ditto here, except I'm talking about the 2.8. Some aftermarket O rings are square, or other shapes. I've had some leakage. The O ring really needs to be an O ring.

Hmm, yes it is aftermarket from Carquest actually. Maybe their parts aren't exactly to spec.

Lol. I'm just happy it works. For how long, who knows.
