Default aftermarket deck problem

i have a 2001 a4 avant 2.8 v6

i installed an aftermarket pioneer deck, wired up no problem and works great except one thing. the key has to be in the run position to turn the radio on. with the aftermarket deck, simply pressing the volume button in doesn't have the same functionality as the stock deck. anyone else experiencing this annoyance?

My A4 B5 keeps the radio on regardless of the ignition status or the key. It automatically times itself off after approx 1.5 hours if you don't turn it off yourself in the meantime.

I think you screwed up in installation somewhere, wouldn't that kill your battery? I have an aftermarket radian and it's only on when the car is on

Same here, pbcrazy. I have a pioneer 7" head unit. when i turn the key to the off position, the head unit turns off.

I have to turn the key to the on position, in order to turn the head unit back on. its not a big deal to me, just a small inconvenience.

In that case you'd have to wire both the constant and switched 12v to the constant 12v. The problem with that is the radio will always stay on unless you turn it off, and won't be affected by the key position.

Nah, i don't want to have to fumble with the head unit, everytime i park, Audina.

I'm fine with the power shutting off with my key and turning it back on with a flick of a wrist!
