Okay well I haven't been on for a while since I've been busy buying a new Audi. Got an opportunity and I purchased a 2001.5 A4 1.8t last saturday. Love the car. Runs great with 60k miles. My other car is the 2001 A6 2.7t so im new to the AMB set up or whatever the 1.8t is. So tonight a friend and I threw in a hi flow k&n filter. Plugged it out and plugged it all back in exactly how it was before. When I turned the car on my rpms dropped to 650 and back up to a 750 idle. Then I have a ABS light on, ESP light and a check engine light. None were on before.... so WTF??? I only unplugged the one MAF sensor and nothing else was touched. Maybe someone else here with more B5 experience can enlighten me cuz im pissed off!!!

 

scan for the codes and then post back. it's hard to narrow things down without the fault codes

 

So the vag com is the only way to get codes right?

 

autozone will do it for free

 

Possibly the oil from the filter got on the MAF sensor and is causing problems. Just a suggestion, but also check for codes and post them here.

Now that u mention that josh it might be oil on the maf. Am I gonna have troubles if it did or is it gonna just clear itself off...given that's my problem.

 

pick up some electronics cleaner from autozone or radioshack and clean the maf. has to be electronics cleaner. if the filter you bought is oiled tho, this problem will keep coming back

 

that is why you let the filter dry out a lil bit, but you can get a new maf fairly cheap online or at your local vw dealer
