so with all this talk about light flywheels causing gear rattling do you think i would be better off keeping my old flywheel on and just getting a new pressure plate and disc?

no. they are heavy as eff. my ecs flywheel is fine for me. mike hates on it because other people havent had good luck, but i have. your probably best off getting a flywheel around 20 pounds

That is an option if it doesn't have really high miles on it. The down side to the dual mass flywheel is that it causes a rpm hang and does not allow the engine to respond quickly to throttle changes. It also needs to be replaced at some point since the spring can get softer over time.
