Default Is this normal for the auto tranny?

98 b5 a4 2.8Q auto w/ 115K.

When shifting into 4th, and with the gas pedal held constant, I notice an upward RPM surge of up to 300rpms before the gear is engaged. The same happens going from 4th to 5th. The first 3 gear changes are silk smooth no matter what speed the car is travelling at.

I would like to know if it's normal for the car to do the above, or should I be concerned?

Thanks

Do you recommend blauparts tranny flush kit or is there a cheaper alternative?

The Blauparts kit works great. They also include a few extra bolts for the pan, which saved my bacon because I stripped one of them when taking them off.

That happens to me, too. My tranny has been flushed twice, and it still does it, so I'm not sure if a flush will do the trick...

When/if you do the tranny flush, check the magnets in the pan for gray matter, if so thats metal from your clucth packs and start saving.

I hope that it's just low fluid but just giving you a heads up. BTW DO NOT FLUSH just drain and refill/change gasket/filter. Flushinng can do more harm than good sometimes.
